(

We’re glad to announce that we have some new blood within the ranks of the editorial team this time round we'd like to introduce Richard Popple MBE.
Richard Popple was born in Boston, Lincolnshire and moved to Birmingham when he was nine years old.  He was educated at King Edwards School, leaving to join the Royal Air Force, originally for National Service, but eventually staying on for over 28 years, serving in Egypt, Cyprus, Bahrain and various parts of the UK.  He retired in 1978 in the rank of wing commander to take up senior personnel posts, first in the West Midlands County Council, then in the West Midlands Passenger Transport Executive.  From there, he moved into the legal sector, as manager of a set of barristers’ chambers.  Finally, he became an independent management consultant, serving as President of the Institute of Management Consultants in 1999.  He was awarded the MBE in the New Year Honours List in 1976. He has been organist of many churches since the age of 14 and has conducted numerous church choirs and choral societies.  Since 1982, he has been an officer of the Incorporated Association of Organists (IAO), which has over 6,000 members worldwide, first as Treasurer, then Secretary and finally as Vice-President until retirement at the end of 2007.  He was also Managing Editor of the IAO’s quarterly magazine, Organists’ Review; retirement from that allowed time to take up a place on the Editorial Board of Superlink.

Bob Ingram
(formerly of
West Midlands Probation Service)
(
June 2008)
Bob Ingram is a Brummie, born and bred. His early years were spent singing in the church and school choirs, and as a bowler (but a lacklustre batsman) in the school cricket team.
His working life started at Birmingham City Council. In 1973, he was appointed to the Probation Service. Prior to early retirement in 2000, he took on the role of partnership services manager, developing contractual based payments to voluntary sector agencies working with offenders. Outside of work, his interests have largely been focussed on youth work, firstly as an assistant, then as a youth leader. During that period, he managed volunteers organising activities at a hospital unit for emotionally disturbed children. Maintaining and repairing things mechanical feature highly on Bob’s scale of spare-time activities. Cars and his two motorcycles are examples of the challenge and sense of achievement he feels following time spent on repair and maintenance projects, but riding his two motorcycles – and especially touring holidays with his wife, Lynne as pillion – are amongst his real passions. This year’s journeys feature trips to Wales and Belgium, the Tour des Grande Alpes and a visit to a classic ‘bike rally in Spain. Bob’s more sedentary activities include serving as a trustee of two local charities: first, a 100 year plus grant-giving charity and secondly, the management committee of the youth centre, a recent appointment as vice chair of Birmingham Fabians, prospective retired members’ secretary of his Unison branch and assisting the editorial board of Superlink. Bob and Lynne are comfortably settled in a village close to Lichfield.
